No power when hot Sign In

1990 GMC k1500 4.3 w/154,200 miles. new plugs,wires,rotor,cap, and complete axhaust (crossover to tailpipe). Starts and runs good, but take it on the road 3 miles and get into a hill and no power (15 mph). Get back on the level and it will pick up speed.

bad for coils and distributor shafts cracking if im not mistaken

Not the easiest to check fuel pressure but it might not be a bad idea to take a look in this case.............

Dont know if this will help. Several yrs ago I owned a jeep wagoneer with a similar condition on the level road seemed fine . Try to go up one of florida's many mountains (BOAT RAMP)and it would not move. It was a struggle to go up expressway on ramps. Turns out the torque converter was bad .As Sidom said check fuel system first >>> its easier and cheaper.

Thanks for the input. Yesterday I was reading in my Chilton book about the transmission and came to the part about Downshift Relay and Speed Sensor, can anyone tell me if they can be tested and how? Yesterday I also took the truck half way down the hill I lost speed on. I turned around and went back up the hill at 35 mph. I didn't let it shift to third until I got to the top of the hill. When it shifted it continued to gain speed. As I remember it the truck didn't downshift before when I came to the hill at 45 mph. Could this be the problem?
