Its the 86 GMC Suburban, all was semi-well until leaving the store, while trying to start'er up, it sounded like something was scraping against metal and then nothing, just something spinning...no starting of the engine...sigh..if any of that made sense, HELP!
Hmmm...I wonder what this does...

Sounds like something in the starter to me. Either the starter has quit or there are some teeth broken off the flywheel. If starter is removed, look closely at all the teeth on flywheel before re-installing starter. You need to turn the engine over by hand while watching the teeth through the starter hole. If any teeth are missins, chewed up or damaged, a new flywheel should be installed.

Yeah turns out it was with the starter, a bolt had apparently broken off of the case, i tightened the other one but i had to get a new bolt for the other side, but as i said though the previous bolt broke off so the rest of it is still screwed in there, i think if i had to replace the starter or flywheel i'd need to get that out somehow anyway...so minus having to take the car into a shop, any ideas on how to get it out? ( the rest of the broken bolt)
Hmmm...I wonder what this does...

Hope I read this right? The starter works and would with just one bolt and the other is broken offMad

If the broken bolt is sheared off without any grip on what's left it will need to be extracted and you may want to farm that out. It's done by drilling a hole and using things called "screw extractors" and if you break one in the drilled hole you are in trouble!!!!

The flywheel or ring gear if needed would require removing the transmission. Take a good look at it before you go that far. I'd bet it's ok but who knows, T
