98 GMC Sierra 117k V8

Yesterday I noticed a burn-ish smell as I pulled into the driveway. Today I went to start it. Nothing. So I charged the battery with a charger until it read full. Lights came on (no dimming that I noticed) including dash lights. Clicked but wouldn't turn over. Just the click. Ran inside to check something and ten minutes later it was dead again. No click, no light, nothing. Cleaned the terminals but the battery is at least 5-6 years old. What could the culprits be here?

Have the battery tested first.

Is it possible to have a battery be that dead? I have never seen it be a battery and not accept a charge at all other than to renew dash and headlight function. Or is it more probable that it is something else?

yes its possible . A battery has many internal soldered connections any one failed will render the batt DOA . Even a brand new battery can fail.

Thank you, on my way to check that avenue. Crossing my fingers it's that easy of a fix.
