No spark 2002 windstar Can't Post

2002
Ford
Windstar
3.8l
170,000 miles

My engine was misfiring on cylinder 2 so I replaced all the spark plugs and also ran some seafoam through it. It ran well for a few days then began dieing when the idle dropped at random times until it all together quit at a stop light. I also burned up my starter trying to get it going at the light but I replaced that. I have replaced the following things and still get no spark to plugs.

coil (old one tested bad with mulimeter

crankshaft position sensor (Vehicle used to act sluggish in rain

ignition switch

Any help would be hugely appreciated!

Use a fuel pressure gauge to test for correct fuel pressure, also noticing if the pressure holds when key is shut off.

Thanks for the response! I can hear the fuel cut in and cut off. When I remove the plug can smell gas strong. I don't have a fuel pressure gauge as well.

Would low fuel pressure cause no spark?

Did you actually use a spark tester to test for spark?
How about injector pulse? Do you have that?

For testing the spark plugs I grounded the plug and watched for spark and then used a test light in the spark plug wire and got no spark.

I haven't checked for injector pulse but I'm reading up on that now and will try

You can't test a 30K volt spark with a 12v test light. You need to use an adjustable spark tester to find out just how strong your spark is when you have one.

Injector pulse was good. I borrowed a tester from a neighbor and confirmed no spark.

Any ideas?

See if you have power on the red wire going into the coil.
If you do, get a couple jumper wires and your noid light and hook the noid light between the red wire and the DB/LG wire and crank to see if you have pulse there.

If you don't have a noid light how did you test for injector pulse?

I took out the electrical plug to the injectors (all 6) and placed the ground to the battery and positive to the injectors electrical plug.

You didn't test anything that way. I told you that you had to use a noid light for a reason. We still don't know if you have in injector pulse or not and we are probably just wasting out time.

Sorry, I didn't see anything posted earlier about needing a noid light to check the injector pulse. When I looked it up online that it said to use a multimeter but I see where that wouldn't be able to keep up the injectors firing

Doesn't look like I would be able to get a noid light anytime soon

You're right. I didn't spell it out here like I usually do. You can buy a noid light for under $10 and using anything else will damage the computer. Plug it into the injector plug and crank the engine. If it flashes, you are good.

These aren't ideas. I am systematically isolating the area with the problem.

OK, not use your noid light for the same type of tests on the wires I identified earlier at the coil.

A wire that is dark blue with light green stripe.
You should unplug the coil when testing the wires.

I had to charge my battery. On my coil plug I didn't have a dark blue or light green stripe wire. Mine are red, pink with stripe, blue, red stripe.

I'm sure the one you think is only blue will be the one we're looking for because the other colors match the other feeds. Actually you can test the red with any one of those. I just randomly picked one of the 3 circuits to test. You should get pulse from any of the 3 when cranking.

Re: No spark 2002 windstar [In reply to] Can't Post

If you cranked the engine with the light attached between the red and any one of the other 3 and it didn't flash, that point to a bad PCM or the wiring in between but I have never seen one act that way so may absolutely sure that you performed all the testing correctly. For a PCM to give you injector pulse and not ignition pulse is pretty unusual.

I will explain the way I tested it. I'm using a noid light set of six. 1 fit in my red and pink light, another fit in my red and blue, and so on and so on. Could I take my PCM to a dealer and have it tested?

No, there is no way to test a PCM. The way you diagnose one is by eliminating everything else.

I've had little luck locating a pcm that I could get today. I changed the crankshaft position sensor but not the camshaft position sensor earlier. Could a bad camshaft sensor cause it not to fire?
