after reading this whole thread i see two possible solutions if you have the code and you enter it and it still doesn't work.
1. disconnect the power from the back of the radio.
(momentarily, i assume)
2. turn the key on with dash lights on and disconnect the battery for about 15 minutes.

#1 doesn't really make sense because the battery power was obviuosly interrupted to get the flashing CODE. #2 for similar reasons unless those dash lights have something to do with it.

I was looking for a good excuse to buy an Alpine anyway.

okay I have read all these threads and I still don't know what I need to do. I have left the key on the first position with the word code on the radio for about an hour and tried to enter the code and it didn't work. I then turned the car completely off and disconnected the battery for about 15 minutes put everything back together tried entering the code again and nothing. I know the code is correct because I got it from the dealer, it's 5 digits but it is still not working. Any suggestions? please help

You know why the highest number in any radio code is a "6", is because thats the highest numbered button on the radio. To enter a code of 64313, you have to press the six, then the four, then the three and so on. Each button only gets pressed one time. I have heard of people attempting to press the "1" button six times, then press the "2" button four times, then pressing the "3" button three times, and so on, to enter their code. That only locks up the radio!

Did you ever find a solution. I had the same problem, and the only one that worked for me was from ABQ Guest. You turn the ignition key to position 2, then disconnect the battery. Wait an hour, reconnect the battery and try the code again. This worked for me when all other methods failed. I also verified that I had the correct code from the dealer (they could not fix either).

I also have had the problem with the code. I am now going to try unhooking the power from the back of the radio. I did unhook the entire car, but that did not work.

Also, do you know anything about the outside temp on the bmw 325i. It will not change from -34F

Thanks for your help

Had the same problem you all describe. Work was done on my '92 525 that involved disconnecting the battery but the radio would NOT accept the code.

I am the original owner so I KNOW I've got the proper code. Tried repeatedly with no luck.

Left the radio powered up for an hour and it suddenly accepted the code.

I had some tools in hand to remove the radio if necessary so maybe the car got scared seeing me with tools and immediately surrendered !! Tongue

ok, well all of what you all have given is helpful.
Now, here is what my experience has been recently.

E30 deck as I can't speak for any other.

Did all that you've all advised. 3 strikes and I was out!!!
Radio ser # matched with code dealer checked. not once, but 3 times. My radio didn't allow for the code period. I was locked out. Kept the car in access. position for 30min, 1 hour, 3 hours. didn't matter still rejected code.

Got a buddy of mine at BMW whose a tech who couldn't tell me what to do either.

Here is what am IT buddy of mine did.
Opened up the bottom of a deck and found 6 solder jumpers corresponding to the code. He had to remove the solder from the jumpers and switched them around to get a "new" code. The new code was a recommendation given by some "do it your selfer guide" there were only 2 options. Since the original didn't work he used #2 option- which was a new code.

Gave it back to me; I powered it up and punched new code in and radio was on.

Sometimes it just locks out and becomes un operational.

FYI. thanks for the posts.
