ShockedTrying to find coolant leak in my son's 98 S10. Filled radiator with coolant, started engine with cap off and coolant shot out of the filler neck like a geyser. With cap on, the overflow reservoir pumps out coolant. Seems like something blocking the normal circulation. Any ideas?

The radiator cap is the pressure regulator. This sounds more like a head gasket is allowing exhaust gas pressure to mess up the operation. A pressure test or exhaust gas test in cooling system would help with the diagnosis.

If it is the gaskets(s) hope no other problems are found $$$$ T
