Search Auto Parts Search battery keeps dying Sign up here!   Email This Post Auto Repair Home>> Truck Repair>> Truck Repair Advice smitty911 Novice Dec 21, 2007, 5:40 PM Post #1 of 3 (3474 views) battery keeps dying Sign In my battery went dead in my truck not too long ago. its an 84 so its pretty old but i just got a new battery and it worked fine at first but it already died twice within a week. i thought it might be the alternator but someone told me that if you take the negative off the battery and it stayed running then the alternator was probably good. so i did that and it stayed running but the last time i revved it up without the negative hooked up it stalled. all of the connections to the battery are clean. i cleaned them when i got the new battery a week ago. does anyone have any ideas of what it might be before i have to take the alternator off and have it tested. Start with that. Engine off you should see about 12v.
