Fuse Box Issue 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 Sign In

Hi, I just bought a 2002 Ram 1500 2wd 3.7 6 cy. from a guy in town last week. I noticed the odometer is lit 24/7 and asked about it because three days later the battery was dead. Previous owner said he moved a fuse so the lighter socket would always be powered. I'm hoping the odometer is on the same fuse line but I have no idea which fuse it is he moved and where he moved it to or from. I don't see "odometer or lighter" listed on the fuse box cover. Can anyone help? I just bought a new battery today am afraid to hook it up so it doesn't drain. Thank you!

Never say never but I thought most or all such vehicles the lighter and probably power ports were empowered anyway without messing with anything.

I doubt just a fuse was move but rather wiring was hacked up and you'll need to see if you can to undo that and put it back as it should be,

Thanks! You are right, I learned it has nothing to do with the fuse box (probably figured I was a dumb girls and didn't know any better) as I got under the dash and did some searching. He has a wire coming out from behind the power outlet and meeting up with a reddish wire in the harness and both are taped and go up into the steering column somewhere. Do you have any idea why he would wire it that way? Why would he need the reddish wire to meet up with it? Sorry, just trying to figure out how to undo what he did without screwing up the odometer.

I couldn't guess how someone hacked this up so it will end up being plain looking for now for anything obvious. Hope it didn't involve stripping wiring to double up a circuit and splicing wires in some manner harder to undo.

Duh, it shouldn't be like that and is now causing problems leaving things drawing power that should be OFF when key is off and out.

In general: Things that have available power all the time should include, brake lights, hazard lights, parking or running lights, many headlights, cig lighter and power ports usually, many push button type map or reading lights. Courtesy lights, glove boxes and some others that don't come to mind right now. I have no clue what the prior owner was trying to do but we know it needs to be undone and how will take a careful look at it and hope not real mess to put back properly.

Pet peeve of mine is dang map or forced lighting can stay on by mistake too easily not noticed in daylight and dead battery will result. It isn't good for battery to go low or dead too much as more troubles will come from that,

T
