Transmission problem
1991 Chevy Silverado V8 5.0 Two Wheel Drive Automatic 150000 miles

Hello,

I have a C1500 truck and when I first start my truck and put it in reverse the truck will start jerking slowly in reverse. If I apply to much gas the gear will slip until the rpms' come back down. The last oil change, I was told there might be metal shavings in my rear differential and should change the oil on my next visit. Could damage in the differential be causing this jerking? After the truck warms up for a while the problem seems to go away. I had the transmission rebuilt about 6 years ago.

Thank you,

pigheaded

If the differential is posi, could be the clutches binding. Generally speaking, internal differential problems don't come and go. If it isn't posi, I doubt that it's the diff. Have the cover pulled for an inspection and, if okay, replace the gear oil, which should be done at 50K intervals, anyway.
