I have a 1998 S-10, 2.2L 4sp auto and I noticed it was leaking either tranny fluid or oil. I crawled under the truck and found this (see pics). I have no idea what this is, but it looks like a vent of some sort. It is leaking transmission fluid and is located between the oil pan and transmission pan. Please help. http://s1198.photobucket.com/albums/aa446/kfarnum/

That looks like engine oil. You must be looking at the bottom of the bellhousing upside down. Check the back of the valve cover for leaks. You'll need an inspection mirror. Always start from the top of the engine when diagnosing oil leaks. Gravity pulls the oil down and can make something below appear it is leaking when it is actually coming from above. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Could be dirty trans fluid too coming out of the trans front pump. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Yes, I was under the truck looking from back to front. I have looked above and haven't seen anything, though I haven't gone in with a mirror yet. When I moved that plug looking thing (what is that btw?) more came out. I thought it was oil at first, but it has a red tent to it when I rub it with my finger. My oil is fresh as I just changed it about a month ago and is still full. Transmission fluid level was a little low, so I added some. I also had an error messaged for slippage in 4th gear and took it to a shop, the guy there ran diagnostics and said that he didn't see any issues given the mileage (180,000) and told me to change the filter and gasket when I get a chance. Haven't done that yet. Thanks for your help, I will get a mirror and take a better look at it.

I really don't think you want to change the fluid on that car. It may not drive out of the shop.
