Probably a problem with plug wires -- cap and rotor are less likely but in the mix with this. Tom Greenleaf Ultimate Carjunky / Moderator Aug 4, 2006, 11:37 AM Post #4 of 5 (3326 views) Re: 97 s-10 stumbles Sign In Should have said this the first time but a way to check wires etc is to spray window cleaner on suspect parts (cool engine) in the dark and look for arcing or sparks. Doesn't have to be window cleaner but it doesn't make a mess and clean water doesn't work. For vacuum leaks: Listen for them, look at hose line first. Then you can test with carb/throttle body cleaner at suspect spots including intake manifold gasket but again with a cool engine as hot parts will make some carb cleaners flash. If you try that trick have an extinguisher handy. If you spray on a leaking spot and idle changes you are on to something.
