I am trying to figure out what engine i can replace mine with. I have a 4.3 Vortec in my 01 Silverado and it has locked up.

Re: 01 Siverado Sign In

If you do not want to do many modifications, go back with the 4.3. If you go bigger, you may need different wiring and computer. Not really sure.

Re: 01 Siverado Sign In

To add: I highly suggest a direct exact replacement if needed. If you want a V8 or different engine buy a vehile with it as OE to begin with,

Re: 01 Siverado Sign In

If you have the rioght tools, parts and knowledge, you can install any size engine is just about anything. If you are going to go with a V8, as Tom mentioned, I would get the entire wiring harness also.

Re: 01 Siverado Sign In

Again a 2001 has so many controlsd dedicated to the specific drivetrain that it's not worth changing IMO. It would be a nightmare to change everything over such that body control modules, engine computer, that also knows and tells trans what to do - how much fuel to deliver and when I'd give up and get another vehicle OR replace with exact right engine if you need the whole engine.

This if changed would quickly become an illegal vehicle in my state or you go thru hell to document that you have altered it and it meets state requirements. Nightmare is the key word. You might need a new title stating it's fixed up junk and more! Keep it OE and save $$ on the Tylenol!
