looking to purchase 1999 lexus 300 es, cars seems fine all around except owner did not replace timing belt (@ 90,000) schedule. I need to drive car home to replace (400miles). Is this a huge mistake? Car has 119,000 miles present. thank-you

Your call there...for obvious reasons the manufacturer recommends replacement of the Timing Belt at certain mileage intervals,in this case you said 90k.... Will it make it the 400 miles, who knows,it could go another 50 k and not break or it could break within the next mile.....its already over the max by almost 30 k.... If ever a doubt....error on the side of caution they say...right? Not sure if its an interference engine or not, probably,so if it does, you'll sure have an expense on your hands...and thats a big big gamble... Are you planning on replacing it yourself or having it done at a shop/dealer? If not yourself, then maybe for piece of mind, have it done local where your purchasing it...then for sure you'll be ok. Just my thoughts See what the others say Good luck to you

With Jim on this - do it now b4 trip. Couldn't find whether it's an interferrance engine or not but it probably is. Belt itself is cheap - engines - need I say? T
