NEED NAME OF OLDER, DRY, HEAD GASKET SEALER Sign In

AROUND 1970-85 THERE WAS A DRY HEAD GASKET SEALER, SOLD IN BLOCK FORM, THAT YOU BROKE OFF AND CRUMBLED INTO THE ENGINE.
I WAS ALSO TOLD AT LEAST ONE OEM AUTOMAKER PUT THIS IN THEIR NEW CARS. MEMORY SEEMS TO TELL
ME IT MIGHT HAVE BEEN AN AC/DECLO PRODUCT.

ANYONE REMEMBER THE NAME AND CAN IT STILL BE PURCHASED?
THANKS AND DRIVE-ON

GM has cooling system sealing tabs that are used in their Cadillac engines such as the northstar. I don't think it was designed to correct head gasket issues though. Basically all it is is bars leak. I do not know of any manufacture recommending to install bars leak in today's engines.

Aftermarket does have head gasket breach sealing liquids, but those are temporary band-aid fixed that have a 50% chance of working.

If you plan on keeping the vehicle for a long time, your best bet is to perform a head gasket replacement job.

Thanks for your reply, but I was looking for the dry additive that goes into the engine oil tube and seals the block.

You mean something you would add to the crankcase? I've never heard of sealing a head gasket problem through the crankcase. I'd be leery or dumping stuff into the oil.

You aren't going to seal any head gasket from the crankcase. I've never even seen a product that claimed to and that's saying something.
