So i have a race tire mounted on a rim. It is going on the wall in the garage for decoration. A total waste of time, but its a because I can project. I want to get a motor and mount the wheel/tire in such a manner that I can put power to it and make it so that it spins while it is hanging there. Not fast mind you. 10 to 15 rpm. i am trying to think of a way to do this. I figure I will need a 5x5 hub assembly or something like that. what kind of motor to use, that I can plug in to the wall for power. a standard 110 outlet. any thoughts or suggestions would be great. thanks

I have a couple of ideas the only problem is the question of liability since I am a mod here...... If Tom G comes in here with the thumbs up on this I'll add my 2ยข.

The only idea i have come up with is to get a hub assembly for a chev or a toyota and cut it off just past the spline and attach some sort of gear system. As for a means to power it i am still at a loss....

It would be a lot easier to just use a boat trailer axle and cut it off. You could run a shaft through the center to the dust cap to drive it on the bearing. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

You can buy trailer parts at any trailer supply place. I don't know where you are but here in South Florida they are everywhere. For the motor you should be able to find something at a crafts store, something with lower RPMs. Many Christmas displays use stuff like that. You can just use a rubber band type belt like a vacuum cleaner belt to drive it.

Bet you could get the whole thing for free. Call - email or whatever major tire folks and bet they would give you one of something close to what you want perhaps with a clock in it, T
