make a Skyline

I am 18 thinking of buying a really old Nissan Sentra for around 1000$ with about 150,000-300,000 km. My main idea is to tune it up as I grow older like fix up the engine and exterior etc. I really want it to look like a skyline(old Sentra looks like Skyline if tuned properly). My parents say the car will break down in a month and i will have to trash it. My friends say it isn't really great for the car to get fixed piece by piece. Can someone please give some advice as in what to do. Can someone also give me an estimate price as to how much it would cost to change the whole engine, transmission, brakes, etc. I am only working part time so I am not making alot of money so I really need some advice. Thank you

If you needed a whole engine and transmission most cars would be near worthless. The cost of those would exceed the value of the vehcile in almost all cases. Start with a good solid drivetrain and fixing up details is fine. Repairs easily can exceed a car's value especially in the entry level priced vehicles out there, T
