car services? Sign In

1) car inspection (state inspections) what is normally is done in this process I am a little paranoid sometimes on what they are actually opening up or doing to the car.
Is it just testing the emissions with an OBD like devices , then just checking to see if the wipers, brakes, lights, wheel wear is ok. Or do they also check the air bags, seat belts... if so how for the air bags if not deploying them...

And when the inspection is done do they have a system that is linked to the dmv so that the dmv knows that the car passed inspection / should be issued another registration. Or is the stickers the only thing that proofs the car is registered
I could probably see the service guys just signing into the state/dmv site and updating it but I don't know how much outside intervention the dmv normally allows...I would imagine if they registered as a business they could but don't know for sure.
Maybe somebody out there that works at jiff lube or some other state inspection service place can answer this one

Please let me know if I am missing any checks also is 30 minutes about the time it takes to do a full inspection

is there anyway to find out what the details of what they check for in your state. perhaps a website somebody knows about.

I would imagine auto mechanics must know this for there state how did they get this information.

example suppose a auto mechanic in CT moves to CA how does he find out if there is any knew requirements for state inspection?

That's what I just said. Every state is different.

My state doesn't even have an inspection.

What is your interest in this for?

Honestly they really need safety inspections here in FL. Some of the crap driving around here scares the heck out of me.
