Few questions about clutch stages

I am looking to replace my clutch and transmission to something a bit more powerful. What I'd like to know is what exactly do the stages in the clutch system. Also I heard if you put in too high of a stage clutch on a car with to little horsepower/torque it actually hurts performance. And another question about clutches. The guy that owned my car before me set up the clutch to have more neutral to it. Which is annoying since I drive a friend's truck a few times a week and I have to get used to both of them when I drive. Anyway he said there was something I have to turn to tighten up the clutch. Anyone know what he might be talking about? By the way my car is a 91 honda civic DX.

You can adjust the amount of "free-play" at the top of the clutch. Alone changing the clutch for performance in a Civic wouldn't do anything that OE doesn't TMK. Gear ratio could change where you get whatever power is available by why mess with a Civc? T
