Hi all!

I am working on a new product/service for independent business owners (i'm not selling!) that I think is perfectly suited to the mechanics/garage owners amongst us, and am looking for some feedback.

The general idea is this:

A customer comes to your garage for a service. You know that he/she will also require another service in about a years time but there is no guarantee that they will return to your garage. You also know that they will require an MOT in the future, and again they may not return for one of many reasons.

My service would allow you to schedule a text message to be sent to this customer on a specific date (for example, 1 month before a due MOT). This message could be offering a reduced rate (book now, get 10% of your service cost!) or simply reminding them that their MOT is due. Either way, they are more likely to come back to your garage to have the work done.

This could be dressed up as a 'free reminder service' for your customers, and could be used for almost anything:

"Everything was ok, but your brakes are a bit on the worn side, you might have to replace them in a few months. Would you like to receive a reminder from us about this?"

My questions are:

* Do you already use a service similar to this?
* Would you consider using a service like this?
* What features would you like to see?

I am also looking for a few people to try the service (for free!) to provide some real-life feedback on it's usability. Please reply if you would like to do this!

(I haven't included my website etc... as I'm unsure about the rules regarding this kind of thing, but if it is allowed I can post it here!)

And you really think this is a NEW idea?

It's been around as long as text have.

We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

I am aware that it isn't a new idea. I think that it is very common for bigger companies to do things like this but less so for the small business/sole trader. My model is a simple PAYG system that requires no commitment or obligation past a free trial.

I think I can do a good job of making services like this a bit more accessible to business owners - however it's always good to get some feedback from the horses mouth, so to speak!
