I have a different take on just how dangerous our job is.

I am a volunteer firefighter in my home town. We hear all the time about how brave firefighters\police etc are, and that is certainly true. How often do we hear how brave mechanics are??

When a firefighter is injured or killed on the job it makes the front page, mechanics??? not so much.

Don't get me wrong, firefighting is very dangerous business, I just see it from both sides of the fence. There are many professions that are very dangerous and those that take those risks deserve respect, not just police\fire.

I personally would refuse to use a hoist that was in disrepair

A story from when I was 18 & didn't know better.I was doing an engine swap on a 81 cutlass supreme v6 to v8. I had the engine in but out of time so bad it wouldn't start. I put a dash of fuel in the Carb & adjust the distributor. I repeated this a few times. I was on the passenger side and graves the distributor with my left hand and lifted it out while it still had power to the electronic ignition. It touched the fire wall and a spark ignited the fuel I had been poring in the engine. It blew off both valve covers, ripped the distributor out of my hand & blew the Carb 30 feet into the air, landing in the neighbors yard. I was scared & had a lump in my pants but not a scratch of injury. The lord had potty on a fool that day.

My auto repair background is many years as family shade tree.& 500hrs in auto technology in engine performance specialization. Certificate received. I am not a tech & not qualified to give advice.

This thread is 4 months old and belongs to someone else. If you need help with something, then you need to start a new question of your own.
