'98 Pontiac Grand Prix: Replace alternator Sign In

1998
Make: Pontiac
Model: Grand Prix GT
3800 V6

So here is where it stands: I don't have the cash to pay somebody to replace my alternator. I had somebody who said they would help me out today and today only, and that person never showed.

I tried to find videos on how to replace it, but either came up empty or had different years with poorly-made videos.

So, I'm going to have to find somebody with tools or see what that loaner tool thing is over at AutoZone, and do this myself.

The battery is dead. I'll have to take it out and walk it to AutoZone. Just thought I'd mention that if that means anything.

So, what do I need to do to get the alternator out? Are there certain steps you have to do in a certain order?

If you really need instructions to do something this basic, then you really shouldn't attempt this. It can only result in further damage.

The instructions are very simple.... disconnect the battery, remove the belt, remove the alternator bracket and bolts.

As stated: I don't have the money and the person didn't show up. I have until Friday to solve this myself.

I have to ask if there are steps; when you don't know what you are doing, you can and will do something wrong. Never hurts to ask.

I will attempt this Thursday and hopefully come back and post about the positive results.

Sport, Doesn't seem you are ready for this at all. Dead battery and you are walking THAT over to Autozone or what? Who decided the reason is an alternator at all? Tool rentals for this job? You aren't ready to take this on IMO,
