2012 mb ml350 bluetec vs. 2014 jeep gc ecodiesel Sign In

Hi All,
I'm looking into buying a new car (new to me) and I'm really interested in the 2012 mercedes ml350 bluetec and the 2014 jeep grand cherokee ecodiesel (in limited trim). I think that both cars are in the same price range (30k or so though I know the jgc is newer for that price range). I'm wondering about opinions on each car. I've heard jgc has had some pretty bad recalls and that mercedes is known for their costly labor and parts. Can anyone give me an opinion on the quality, longevity, reliability etc... for the price for the two cars? Also, are parts and maintenance really more expensive for the mercedes (I've heard people say it needs maintenance less often and therefore balances out)? Would love some info and opinions on owning the two cars. I don't want to make a mistake as I don't really have money to burn and this vehicle will be mine for a long time. Thanks!

I sure can't tell you what you'll like one vs another. No matter what with used get them fully checked out at an independent shop.
Why did you ask if a Benz is expensive? If you didn't know they cost double, triple or more than other vehicles or intimidated by costs they aren't for you. If you love one to bits I suggest the dealer trades only with bumper to bumper warranty no cost to you on top for those.
Your call, this new I'd want either to be a new car dealer who kept the trade in not a history of out on the wholesale market,

One thing I can tell you about the Bluetec is that they have a very common problem of the engine oil cooler leaking oil and it's about a $3,000 job to repair it so check it for oil leaks very carefully.
