Hi! I have a 1999 chevy lumina engine size 3.1 and has 108,000 in miles. Today it was driving fine but all of a sudden while I was in the drive thru in shut off. So the few events that took place b4 all that was I tried to turn my AC on but even through I had it on the highest setting it really wasn't blowing no air out. Anyway when it shut off and I tried to restart it did so but was chugging and then would shut off. This nice man pushed me into a parking spot, went in ate and when I came out it would start then cut off then one time it stayed on then as I tried to reverse it was chugging meaning sorry jerking like I really don't understand it. I would try to apply gas and it would roar but one time it acting like it wasn't getting gas. Any help would be nice, thanks!!!!

Sounds like you got something going on there. I'm guessing your check engine light is on, if so get the codes pulled to see if there is any help there.... Depending on whether there were any codes or not would determine which way to go. I'm not sure of your level of expertise or tools you have available. This would play a big role in how far we could go in checking it out......

Yeah ur rite the check engine light is on.....I think last time it came on it said something like lean fuel but I got it at autozone so he mentioned dirty injectors. I got some lucas injector cleaner and overnight the light went off ugh!!!! I really need my car for work and I heard new injectors are a little pricey

Well, your getting a head of yourself. 1st we need to find out what's going on..... What you could do would be just get the engine a general look over. See if anything is broken or leaking. Start it up if you hear a loud hissing sound you may have a vacuum leak.... If it comes down to guessing. Compare the price of the guess to what a diag would cost at a shop..... If the guess is wrong, you're out the money & still have the same problem.......

Your right the chevy dealer said their dia is 100 autozone is free but they use codes I think chevy uses a diff method, i might just get it towed to chevy to see what the prob. is and then take it from there

the difference is the quality of the scanners they use. autozone can only read the codes and tell you what it says. while at chevy they have specific tools for your specific year and model car. at chevy they can read the codes and try to start it and see what is happening with the engine its systems and get a better diagnoses of it. That might be for the best. AZ doesn't do diags they just pull codes, that take minutes. A diagnosis is confirming a problem by running a series of tests to find the actual failure, this can take hours in some cases. One backyard trick you could try would be get a block of wood or something heavy that won't damage the gas tank and pound on the bottom of tank in the area where the pump sits while someone cranks the engine. If it starts and runs, you are in the 80 to 85% range of a bad fuel pump, this could also explain your lean code......

Ok I feel ya! So it broke down in philly and I live 45 minutes from so when my friends went back to get it towed to their house it started right up and they were able to drive home with it. I think either it needed to cool down or something happened because I just had put gas in before this issue happened. What you think???

So I just decided to take it to goodyear and they checked it out. Turns out it was the fuel pump and the egr valve.
