What is the proper length of a throttle cable for a 1989 gmc suburban. The person that installed my last cable said that the one he ordered was too long, but he installed it anyways. it ended up snapping because he tied a knot on one end to shorten it. The one I ordered and received is the same exact one that he installed. It is roughly 2 feet long and is obviously too long since it's only about a foot from the carburetor to the firewall. It's just a generic throttle cable in black sheathing with no nuts to adjust length or anything. I can't find any shorter cables online though so I don't know if there's a certain way that it just has to be installed or not.

Take your VIN# to the dealer and they will get you the right one if it's still available. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

That cable is 30 inches long so it appears to be the same thing he already has.

Serious caution with this: If you don't have a throttle cable and "wide open throttle" WOT set right you can snap the rod for the throttle plate and when engine eats that you are really screwed. It's critical. Foot to the floor must match WOT without torqueing on the throttle body at all. No faking it, T

You do know the cable does a loop before it goes through the firewall, right? Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Excellent DS. That suggests and looks like a "pull" cable only and don't see (hard to see anyway) that it's adjustable. Loops like that would prevent cable and case that sets the actual pull length not pull if a motor mount broke so bad it would self pull and stay tugging on throttle. Plenty of IDK specifics for each. I've dealt with some the pivot of "gas pedal" wasn't right - accident or damage for any reason. Right parts set right. Now a lawnmower deal at all, T
