By today's standards all my vehicles are pigs. I fight back by driving half a much!! One is a 3/4 ton Chevy truck with snow plow. It's worth the gas at twice the price vs the shovel!! I have a huge driveway and it does it in about four minutes!! I think that one is worth the fuel. I plow at my Dad's too (1.2 miles away). They have this cute habit of widenending the road long after a snow storm and there's a new pile at the end that you could see Europe from so I go back again. You can't even shovel that stuff it's so icy. I'm not a spring chicken but I don't think my Dad in his mid 80s should be messing with that!Smile - T

Neither of my 2 vehicles (both with V8’s) get very good gas mileage. I own a 1994 Chevy 4X4 pick up truck that gets about 12 MPG and a 2000 Cadillac STS that gets a best of 23/24 MPG. I have recently considered getting an old 4 cylinder car just to get better gas mileage for driving around town. The last time I bought gas was last week and I paid 2.89 per gallon here in Bloomington, MN.

Yeh same here - all V8s and poor around town economy but in the 20s on a trip. $2.89 some places would die for!! Just got gas here for $2.81 but that was one of the days some places do cents off on certain days.

Hey - the sports of it always did pay for fuel at outrageous prices. What confused me is that in yachting it was way more costly and we were buying it 300 or more gallons at a single stop - you'd think it would be cheaper??

I've always been a power boater but once went on a four hour chartered cruise on a huge sail boat. Funny but when they cleared the harbor they shut the engines off which almost made my heart stop!! I'm an engine person and NOT used to that.!!

My next home may be a Shannon 50-60 foot sailboat at a marina in RI. If so I'll be on line, Be well, T

I get about 24 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway in my 98 honda cr-v. It usually gets about 22mpg in the city and about 25 mpg on the highway, but at the moment I am trying out interpacific's d1280-x reformulator to try and compare if there really is a mileage difference. Seems to be working. Gas around where I live varies from about 2.99 up to 3.09 for unleaded gas.

Just a comment: My personal attack back at this fuel price craze which may get worse is to absolutely drive as little as possible. My cars don't do much for MPGs around town but if I can use them half as much it's my duty to do so and not all can do that but those who can should.

Let's fight back and get going with alternatives. We have to start now for what may take years to accomplish.

It was upsetting to hear owner of my closest corner store that biz was down and the store is the closest to many around me and he blamed it on the price of fuel. I think he's right, T

In the U.S. new cars have a mandated sticker on the window that is supposed to tell you what to expect and the test is supposed to be in some controlled condition.

What people actually get is always going to be unique to the conditions and the way they drive. In general we don't have a big problem on how much fuel you actually purched as it's pretty heavily checked so sellers can't cheat but I've heard of that, T

The fueleconomy.gov/feg/findacar site is excellent, thanks. I'll be comparing how my '06 Wave does after break-in and the first Amsoil change over.

FOLKS! THESE ARE SCAMS! THERE'S NO SUCH THING AS BURNING WATER IN A CAR IN PLACE OF FUEL. Yes - there are ways to extract hydrogen out of the H2O that water is made up of. It takes more energy to extract it than the hydrogen can give back so it's a double waste! If hydrogen was a wasted by product of doing something else that would be different.

Save your money and time wasted on this nonsense,

T

does that snake oil come in 10w30? After I tried putting it in my car the engine light came on and the scanner said the douche sensor was tripped. Apparently, the douche sensor code is tripped by the ECM when it detects that a complete douche has been screwing with the thing after watching a you tube video. Causes the car to have a bunch of useless crap that will eventually wreck it in the hopes of saving $5 at a gas station, which is applied later to the $130 tow bill, the $900 repair bill, and the rent on whatever trailer the owner lives in. If this crap was real it wouldn't be on You Tube! It would be on every single channel for sale to the public who would jump for it. But its not, because it is as real as the tooth fairy, santa clause and the unicorn. Plus, it keeps pulling those pesky douche sensor codes!

And, just what are you implying with THAT statement? I always got a quarter under my pillow when I lost a tooth. Always presents under the tree Christmas morning. Ever heard "The Unicorn Song" by the Irish Rovers? Don't you go breaking my bubbles!

I'd believe it. It's got a 2.0L high direct injection diesel in it. Probably with a small turbo charger also. Car probably doesn't weight very much.

I wouldn't mind have a small car with a little diesel like that in it to putter to work in. Probably wouldn't have to fill the tank for a month, but EPA won't let them over here unless that have some sort of particulate filter on it.

Quote
DW10

The 2.0 L DW10 was the first PSA Diesel engine to feature common rail direct injection, and was given the commercial designation HDi. It has a bore of 85 mm (3.3 in) and a stroke of 88 mm (3.5 in) for a total displacement of 1997 cc, replacing the XUD9 in 1999. It was initially available in 90 PS (66 kW) form, with two valves per cylinder and a non-intercooled turbo. An intercooler was added later in the year, boosting power to 107 PS (79 kW).
Initially available in the midsized models, such as the Citroën Xsara and Xantia and Peugeot 306 and 406, it was soon spread across the PSA range, such as the LCVs, while a 16-valve version, with 109 PS (80 kW), was used in the large MPVs built in association with Fiat. Suzuki was a customer of these powerplants, using them in the European Vitara and Grand Vitara.
