Re: kerosene or oil smell Sign In

get some simple green and spray it liberally on the upholstery, letting it soak in for about 20 minutes as a pretreater. Then follow up with a shampooer using the simple green in place of the shampoo. After that, go back over with fresh hot water as a rinse. Then dry with fans. The simple green is a great degreaser but not too harsh on fabrics. Smells good too. I use is on cars myself, as mechanics cars tend to get greasy and the regular shampoo can't get it out. You don't need a super expensive machine either. I've done a lot of interiors with a Bissell Little Green Pro Heat that you can get at Wal-Mart for $90. Chances are a neighbor or friend has one of these you could borrow.
