I HAVE A 1990 MERCURY MARQUIS WITH A 5.0L ENG. I HAVE CHANGED THE TRANNY FILTER AND FLUID I HAVE PUT ON A NEW SPEED CONTROL SENSOR AND I CANT FIND A MODULATOR ANY WHERE ON THE TRANNY IS THERE ONE AND WHERE WHOULD IT BE FOUND IF NOT THEN WHAT CAUSES THE TRANNY TO SHIFT EXCEPT FOR THE STEP DOWN

Not sure what you are asking. Are you saying it just stays in low gear?

yes it wont change to a high gear from park i go to drive and then as you drive it should change gears to a higher gear but it stays in what feels like 1st gear

Did this problem just crop up with the recent work or is that WHY you did the work?

There's a cable linkage at the throttle body with a fairly weak connector that if broken off and pulled could make the car think it's floored all the time. That cable is mechanically sensing throttle position and must be in place. When they break they usually won't downshift but might have jammed up last time the gas pedal was to the floor.

How many miles and has this trans already gone thru an overhaul? It's pushing 20 already and could be on a second or third by now - all depending on use and condition,
