my husband and I have recently rebuilt the transmission in our dodge stratus 2002 2.4 DOHC front wheel drive SE car. Due to the transmssion going out on us it stopped working completely wouldn't go into drive or reverse. we have done everything by manual, however when we put it back together it squealed very much realizing it may be brakes or other things rusted a bit due to sitting for about 5 months so we kept driving around the block. the car would drive in forward and in reverse however the speed indicator would not rise nor would the tranny switch gears we though ok computer has to reprogram itself to new parts and maybe thats why it isn't picking up so we did a lil more research found out the fuses are bad so we are gonna replace those soon hoping this will fix the cars issues if this doesn't help can you advise us on what steps to take next and what may be happening to it. would it or could it possibly be the need to get the computer reprogrammed due to it setting for so long and the battery going out on us thanks so much for your help Marsha

Make Dodge
Year 2002
Model Stratus SE
Engine 2.4 DOHC (front wheel drive and it doesn't have overdrive)

1st thing you probably want to do is get the speed sensor problem fixed...

Check the fuses and make sure all the connections on the trans are hooked.

No speed input will affect the transmissions shifting..........

If this is the transaxle I am thinking of, the governor is mechanical in it. They aren't a very good design, prone to jamming up and won't allow the shift into 3rd gear. Had that problem with other 3 speed Chrysler transmissions. But I could be wrong on your particular trans and any others with better information or knowledge base please chime in to correct me on this.

I think your finding out that rebuilding a transmission is not a DIY project. I don't care what books you have. Transmission repair is a specialty trade. I'm certified in transmissions both automatic and standard and i still send my transmission work out to specialists. You should do the same. The longer you put if off, the most it's going to cost in the end.

Get the codes pulled & see what P07xx code you have....

Now that you have the speed sensor problem solve if you have the proper equipment you should check out the shift pack solenoid. That is also a problem area on those.............

Thanks I do have Error codes Got them yesterday it is the p0733 and the p0700 which if not mistaken is the control module and the 3rd gear ratio I'm gonna go back and recheck all my connections specially the celnoid block and make sure I'm getting connection to my computer and just makes sure all my grounds are good if that all checks out i guess ill take it and have the computer reset and reprogrammed after that Im gonna replace it with a good refurbished one. I like to work on my cars and trucks it gives me a sense of pride just like any other guy or girl in this case out there and if once in awhile if we don't venture how are we to learn I really appreciate all the help and as said before ill take it to a specailist if this doesn't work out have a great day marsha
