hola thanks for your time my name is gerardo i have a wv 97 jetta gls. i had a ploblem with my automatic took it to shop had it repair, drove for several months no problem then came my son and borrow it for one month. he return the car for the fallowing reason lack of trans power the more you drive it less power it have ( few blocks) I use my code reader come out p1582 (manufacturer specific) for me its too expensive to fix it again. so my plan is the fallowing make it manual, my motor is 2.0 and i want to know what years can replace it .

You may want to get the code read, possibly by AutoZone, to see if it is the transmission setting the MIL. A restricted exhaust or a faulty MAF sensor could also be the problem. From your description, it sounds more engine related.

I have to agree with Steve on this one. You may want to get it diag'd before making any rash decisions Also with all the computer controls on your car, swapping it out to a manual isn't a very doable option. I'm not sayings it's impossible but by the time you get done changing all the harnesses & modules to go with the manaul trans you will have spent more than the car is worth....

The P1582 is Idle adaptation at limit. I didn't get much more info it but it sounds like a trim problem where comp has adjusted the air/fuel mix as far as it can to correct the problem and can't adjust any more

Steve has a few good suggestions on where to start looking
