I have a 2001 Mercury Cougar, drived fine and all of a sudden, it wont move! it has reverse but no drive, 2 or 1st, its automatic with the 2.5 V6. fluid level was a little low but added some, still doesnt move but has reverse. Any ideas?

I'm not the site's best tranny guy but have a clue. Doesn't sound good for that trans and you will probably be told it needs an overhaul. If linkage is working it's makes the odds more likely that it's tranny time,
