dodge
dakota 4x4
5.2 liter
130,000 miles
automatic transmission won't shift, stuck in first gear (in drive). there is no leak, fluid is clean and there was no warning.
when plugging in a computer under dash there was no response. (checked computer in another car and it worked fine.)
I'm thinking maybe it's an electrical problem, if so what part should be replaced.

can't get any codes due to computer plug in under dash stopped working also

Not sure what you mean by that. Do you mean that if you plug a scan tool into the OBD2 connector you can't access the PCM?

Does the check engine light come on when you turn the ignition on?
Check for battery voltage on pin 16 of the OBD2 connector.
If you don't have power there, check the fuse 12 15amp in the junction block.

It's not communicating yet anyway so if this can't go out just check all fuses and connections as best you can. Doubt it will work with no more info but it might re-set by disconnecting NEG battery cable for a while and clean it while you are there. Do both Neg and pos cables but note - neg off first and back on last.
That would erase codes but a hard code if so would come right back. That's about it that I can think of that is essentially free to try,
