2002 Mercury Mountaineer, 22,185 miles, 4.0 SOHC, with sealed automatic transmisson. I have a banging thud noise on acceleration and deceleration like the transmisson is not shifting into gears properly. The dealer installed a shifter solenoid about 2 months ago. Also installed front and rear seals. But problem persists. Took to transmission shop but they say it's A OK. What's my solution? Roger, Las Vegas

Have you or others checked out motor mounts, trans mounts, driveline struts and bushings as perhaps making normal shifting allow parts to move too far and bump things? Kinda low miles on this for any troubles really. Is there any hard use or mishaps in the history to help find this? T
