Sign In Started up my 71 cutlass supreme 455 rocket and a th400 tranny and b&m shift kit. threw it into first and heard grinding put it back into park shut it off then started it again engine purrs like a champ but the gears no longer work and im a sittin duck. previously to this it has been perfect no slippage or anything. yes checked the fluids all is good. my buddy had a manual once and the gears werent working but that was cause his transfer case was bumped into nuetral and we just replaced the shifter sheet and all is well. confused any ideas? nickwarner Veteran / Moderator Aug 20, 2012, 4:21 PM Post #2 of 3 (1714 views) Re: th400 died on me today. help? Sign In When you put it in gear does it drop the RPMs any like it normally does when you go to drive or reverse? Is the driveshaft still hooked up? Jack it up from the rear and put it in gear. Does the driveshaft turn? You might be looking at a broken axleshaft or grenaded spider gears in the diff and it wouldn't be a trans problem. Or you may have broken the planetary gears inside your trans.
