1994 saturn SL1, 4 cyl., 1.9, 4D sedan, approx. 200,000 mi.
running smooth as a cucumber after sitting about year.
changed some basic things like pcv valve, air & oil filter, gas, battery charge.
I drove it for about 20-30 miles with no problems.
I parked it for two days, started right up. Engaged 1st gear, moved a couple feet and took my foot off the clutCH too fast, causing car to jerk to a stop. when I started it back up, my foot was on the clutch, but the stick shift just wobbled,
not able to engage any gear. Did a pin fall out or is it something serious.
HELP

Usually what happens is a shift cable bushing falls apart and the cable comes of the gear shifter or the shift linkage. You'll have to inspect both ends of the cables to see what came off. Usually, you have to replace the cables.

in referrence to the shifter under the rubber boot (on console) are the cables "under" the car or do I need to remove the console (or anything)?

You can see one end of the cables at the transaxle. They run from underneath the center console and through the firewall to the transaxle. You have to remove the center console to get access to the cable ends at the shifter lever assembly.

after getting access to the cables under the console and inspecting the cables on this end (which seem to be perfecly fine) it feels like the end of the cable (r.s.) is disconnected from the linkage of the shifter while moving the shifter with one hand and cable with the other hand. won't know unless shifter box is dismanteled (is that necessary? ) and could it be broken or is there some kind of pin or screw that needs to be replaced?

If both cables are hooked up, problem is most likely a broken selector shaft pin in transaxel.
look at top of trans where shift leavers are located if this cover is bolted on,you can remove cover replace roll pin in seletor shaft

i completely forgot that saturns are relics now. and when i followed the instructions given me by the knowledgable mechanics in the forum, my problem was made crystal clear.
it was a worn out bushing (probably cost a penny to make) and I couldn't find it anywhere. SO, now I had to improvise.
Ingredients: quarter inch tubing X 1/2" to fit over the ball,
string wire wrapped around the connection about a hundred times to reassure that the ball dosen't fall out, then covered with Gorilla tape,with enough wiggle room to shift the gears. Done deal? OH, COST? NOTHING
Now, ask me what rock did I crawl from under? LOL

good will most likely last a life time the bushings are molded in cable.
