slight increase in power Sign In

2004 mercury mountaineer
4.0 engine
50,000 miles (appoximate)

When my SUV gets to 20 mph there is a slight increase in speed for 1-3 seconds then it droppes back to normal. The RPMs jump to 3000 for this time and then falls back to 2000. I have had the transmission fluid cganges but it had no effect. Any Ideas on what is wrong?

Re: slight increase in power Sign In

When you refer to speed increase, I assume you mean engine speed and not vehicle speed. It sounds like the transmission is having a problem changing gears. There's not a whole lot that you can do yourself here. I suggest you get a couple of opinions from transmission shops and see if they agree on the diagnosis.
