I think I need to add power steering fluid to my 1986 chevy silverado, it makes a whining noise when turning, I don't have book, bought used. I'm an older female, can check most fluids but not much more than that. Any help would be appreciated.

The pumps are mounted in different places, depending on which engine you have but it should be pretty obvious on any of them. The pump will be mounted on the front of the engine and the will be a reservoir attached to it. Remove the cover from the top and the will be a dipstick attached to it. You may need a long funnel to avoid spilling it on the belts. Be careful not to do that.

Now you have to find your leak and repair it as it will happen again and repeated operation of the pump while low in fluid will ruin it also.
