Replace a transmission on my 02 Explorer with a Jasper. After install the tranny will go into reverse, neutral, and park, but drive is 3rd gear. Threw 2 pages of codes. Contacted jasper and says the tranny doesn't have 12V and to check it. They were right. We found a schematic online and showed us where the power comes from. The fuse box. OK here is the strange part. The fuse is good. We have continuity from the box to the tranny connector but no voltage to the connector but have voltage at the box.

We are at a loss.

Thanks,

Tom

Re: no voltage to transmission Sign In

A continuity test only uses a few millivolts to check. If you have a wire broken internally but still has a few good strands it will pass the ohm check and fail under load. Do a voltage drop test. It must be done while the circuit is in use (or attempted use) to give valid results. Place one meter lead on the fuse box wire. With the connector hooked to the trans, backpin the terminal in question and hook the other meter read to it. You will be hooked into two ends of the same wire. The meter reads the difference between the two points it is connected to. So if you have 12v at the fuse but the wiring is bad you will see it fast. Consider anything over .3v reading to be a cause for concern. Thats how much voltage has dropped between the two points. You can do the same test on the ground side too, the readings are just as valid but must be done on a loaded circuit.

Thanks. That makes a lot of sense. It will be a few day before I can try it, but I'll get back with the results.
