cummins clutch stumpin local nuckle buster Sign In

First let me say i trust the "nuckle buster" that did all the work. i have a 03 dodge cummins with a 5 speed trans. i took my truck in when my throw out bearing started making noise. I opted to have the entire clutch rebuilt at the same time. the friend/owners son, i have at the shop told me they had the flywheel turned. from my limited exsperience with working on clutches everything sounded right. When i drove off the clutch was smooth as butter. After a while i noticed a severe shutter when i was backing. i took the truck back to the shop. i told them if it was somthing i did or if it was another problem please tell me and ill pay to fix it. they could'nt find a reason for the shuttering so they rebuilt it no charge. they did say they could see the ware on the flywheel was funny. the just had the fly wheel turnned again and put a new pressure plate in. Again the clutch felt great for a while. Then after putting a load on the reverse gear it got really bad. the shop is willing to look at it again to try and figure out what the problem is. the shutter is only at the half ingaged point on the clutch release the more the load the worse the shutter. when i release 100% there is no shutter regardless of the load. any help before i take it in would be greatly appreciated

I can only guess but a common problem is letting the weight of the trans hang and bend clutch disc which warps it. Turning flywheel would cover the flaw for a short time as described. It's only a guess and all too common IMO in tradtional layout clutches.

In pics you can see the disc above and front shaft of heavy trans below. Trans shaft can't be allowed to hang while it's being tightened up or it warps like an old LP (the music playing record)
