i have close the same problem my 2004 pontiac sunfire was running perfect then i got a new starter cause it was clicking and not starting up right away then the next day after i got the new starter i parked the car and came back out and it started but when i put it in drive it would rev but no movement i dont think its the tranny cause it was recently installed 2 years ago but any input would help i am just clueless

To the OP.

Can't really check the transmission fluid on that unless you don't mind getting under the vehicle and taking the fill plug out with the engine running to see if there is enough fluid in the transmission. Are there any transmission oil leaks? No movement on a 4t40E isn't a good sign, so checking fluid level should be the first thing you should do.

Another important thing you should check is to be sure the transmission shifter cable is attached to the transmission and moves the lever on the transmission. Seen many where the cable eyelet breaks.
