The 4l60e trans ( The model I repaired the most during the last 8 years) often burns up the 3-4 clutch pak. 1st 2nd and rev work ok. The way to tell is when driving , does the trans make the shift out of second but only free revs (slips) (Engine tacs up races) like in neutral, then the clutch is burnt. You should be abel to smell the burnt odor in the fluid. This confirms the trans electronically made the shift and the shift valve mecanically moved in its bore but because of an internal mecanical failure (clutch gear or spline) the trans slipped and the engine reved up. If it had an electronic failure (computer or solonoid) the trans would just stay in second. test it by slowly accelerating to about 45 so U can tell if attempts to shift. Not moving ? Maybe the cluch material from the burnt 3-4 clutch is sucked into the filter causing no move and whinning noise. Good luck Bob
