Transmission on ford escape 08 : Shifting Delay Sign In

Hi,

Year of vehicle: 2008
Make of vehicle: Ford
Model of vehicle: Escape XLS 2WD
Engine size: 4 cylinders
Mileage/Kilometers: 88k miles

2 days ago, coming from nowhere, my Ford escape 08 started to have a delay when shifting from the 1-2 and 3-4 gear.
I brought it to the Ford Dealer, and they said that it was an internal issue, that they need to look inside and it will cost $3800. I am not really trusting those guys and my mechanic can change the whole transmission for $2500.
My concern is, do I really need to change the whole transmission? Does a delay in the gear shifting means that the transmission is dead? If I bring it to aamco for example will they just be able to fix it without changing the transmission and with a not too expensive price?
Thanks for your help, I am not really good at mechanics unfortunately....
I changed the battery last week, can it be linked?

This is what is written on my invoice from Ford:

Road tested and verified delayed 1-2 and 3-4 shifts. Perform IDs self test. Codes P0732 for incorrect 2nd gear. P0734 for incorrect 4th gear. Diag, damaged 2-4 band. Trans will need to come out for inspection.

Also, the check engine light is not on.

Your trans has internal damage and will need to come out and be overhauled. There is no magic additive or quick fix to stop this. If you have a guy you trust already taking care of this that can get under the dealership bid then give him a call. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Ok, I am ready for any bad news now no worries!
Do you think aamco will be able to do something? Can they just fix it or it needs to be completely replaced?
How mush would be an estimate for the overhaul?
Thanks for your help!!

Prices vary by region and shop so you would need to have the shop look at it and give you an estimate.
