Transmission Problems - 2003 Silverado - Not Shifting Sign In

I recently bought a 2003 Silverado at auction. I drove it home from the auction house (about 30 miles) and it ran like a champ, no shifting issues whatsoever. The truck had been sitting for a while so I decided to give it a good tune up including a transmission service. I drained the fluid, replaced the filter & gasket, and refilled the fluid. Immediately after the service, the transmission was not engaging into reverse and I was experiencing rough and late shifting between all gears. After driving around 10 miles, I realized something was seriously wrong. I decided to crack open the oil pan again and check to make sure the filter was seated properly and poke around a little. Sure enough, the filter had fallen out and was just laying in the pan. After replacing the filter, gasket and fluid again, I gave it a test drive. Reverse works perfect now. Shifting between 1 & 2 is great, as is between 3 & 4. My problem is between 2 & 3. At around 2500 RPM's, it shifts (smoothly) from 1st to 2nd. While in 2nd, I get to around 3500 or 4000 RPM's and it won't shift to 3rd unless I completely let off the gas. When I let off the gas and the RPM's begin to crash, it shifts (smoothly) into 3rd. Once in 3rd, it shifts normally and smoothly into 4th. Downshifting between all gears is also fine. I'm wondering if I did any serious damage to the transmission by driving it around for a few miles without a filter in there. I never red lined it, but at a point or two, I'm sure a got over 4000 RPM's. This is confusing to me, because it does shift into 3rd, but only when I let off the gas. If I roached the gear, I would have found metal in the oil pan and fluid, but there was none. Does anyone know what is causing this odd shifting? Is it a computer issue possibly? Did I smoke my friction plates? I ran an OBD 2 test and it came back with no error codes. My concern is that the truck is also raised about 4" and I have 36" tires. Do I need to reprogram the ECU? The truck functioned fine before all of this. Please help me, I'm freaking out over here! Unsure

A trans filter falling down is like excessive low fluid level and may have cause real damage. Trans codes may take a higher end code reader than you were using but doubt it could pick up on plain wear. My guess,

I'm not sure if this would cause the same problem but when I replaced the fluid and filter in my 2003 Sierra I bumped one of the shift solenoids with the pan. I got it all back together and mine wouldn't shift out of second. It was like I had no 3rd or 4th. I had a problem getting the pan off due to the exhaust being in the way and I ended up forcing it around. I wouldn't think a shift solenoid would cause the problem you're having but just thought I'd throw it out there.

Like Tom said, you need a pretty high dollar scanner to pickup tranny codes. I believe there are scanners for trannies only. I think your best bet is to take it to a tranny shop and have them diagnose it. Once you know what the problem is you can then decide if you can fix it on your own. With the problems you're having I would think there would be some codes stored.

Are you positive your fluid level is where it should be at?
