Transmission Builders?? Need Torque Wrench Recommendation? Sign In

New to rebuilding transmissions, but trying to gather tools for now.

What's the best or most suitable torque wrench for rebuilding and installing transmissions? There's so many specs out there, like increments, 0-300 in lbs, drive size, digital or not? What do you guys use?

The best local transmission shop.

I use type two torque wrenches (click type) 3/8" drive. You'll mostly use them on the valve bodies/channel plates, front pumps (RWD), and the pan bolts.

Same here.
I use my 3/8's torque wrench the most, almost never use my 1/4" one.

Ok would 2 lb increments be ok? I'm thinking of getting a CDI TORQUE WRENCH 1502LDIN 3/8" DRIVE, 0" - 150" LBS. Link deleted...not allowed

My 3/8's one is in 2lb increments also, just depends on how exact to spec you have to be.
The 2lb one sould be ok though.

The main thing is that it is calibrated. It's a good idea to have it calibrated yearly or if it gets dropped. Another thing they don't harp on about torque click type wrenches is that you should put it on its lowest setting when your finished with it. You could have the nicest torque wrench in the world that is worthless if it isn't calibrated.
