Tran Leak at Shaft Seal, Is it a DIY Repair?

1985 Dodge 600 with 130,000 Miles, front wheel drive, 4 cyl. Automatic transmission.
Leaks at the output shaft (fitting area) to left front wheel drive shaft.
I envision removal of wheel, pull-out shaft, replace seal.
How do I really do it?
Or other ideas to reduce leak, recapture leaky fluid, encase it in an external sealing with some kind of goo?
Or est. cost for a pro?
Thanks in Advance. Car runs like a top otherwise.
