THM 400 no forward drive - help	Sign In

After reassembling the TH400 in a 1987 Chevy 3/4T (4x4) truck - for the second time...I have no forward drive.
A little history:
Bought truck with no reverse.
Rebuilt transmission and found broken reverse band.
Sold the truck working great and the new owner blew a line and overheated/burned up the trans.
Asked me to rebuild and went through the thing and found many a burned clutch pack.
New owner reinstalled and no forward motion - good reverse.
Took it out again, tore apart and carefully reassembled only to have him call to say no forward motion.
I did have him brake torque in reverse and drop right to D and still acts like you put it in neutral.
Any advise on what else to look at...

I offered all the suggestions I could think of, sounds like none of that worked......

Another area you may want to double check would be the valve body. I'm not sure why you had it apart but there may be something not right there..... You might want to call around to a few tranny shops and maybe you get lucky & one of the builders will take a quick look at it for you for a good price and make sure you have all the check balls back in there & in the right place.

Thanks for the insight!
I did indeed take to a transmission shop and they found too much clearance in the forward drive. Obviously this allowed too much piston travel and tore a seal.
They put new plates and seal in.
We'll get it in over the next day or so and hopefully have forward motion.
