I have an older 87 chevy truck double cab with a standard 3-speed tranny. Yesterday when I pulled up home, I pulled it out of gear and stopped, turned off the truck and went to put it back into gear just as I always do. But this time the shifter was jammed? It just seems locked up, as if it's in gear. But the truck just rolls when you release the breaks. I restarted, held in the clutch & break and tried to put it back into gear with out luck. I left it where it has sat and haven't tried much else other than some research online with no luck there as well. There is a small amount of play on the shifter, but very little. Any ideas what I can do?

Could this still be a "three on the tree" type shifter? If so - go underhood and pull up on the bar that has dropped and you will go again AND it will happen again! That was common on many WAY BACK when and some I used to put a spring on them to prevent that from falling, not too strong and not to weak and I never did do more than that for the fix on some old wrecks that were old in the 60s and 70s !!
