Replacing slave cylinder Sign In

I'm working on a 1992 Ford Ranger. 2 wheel drive, 5 speed with, I think, a 3.0. It's leaking clutch fluid like crazy, I can shift gears maybe 10 times before having to fill it back up. So I got under the truck and found that it's leaking out of the front of the Transmission. Not any kind of steady drip but all of a sudden it will dump some, only when the clutch and stick are being used. when the truck just sits it doesn't leak. Reverse seems to cause the most leakage. so the consensus has been that it is probably the slave cylinder. One persons told me that it is a pretty labor intensive project, having to remove many parts and it would coast quite a bit. I've also been told that the slave cylinder is a fairly cheap part and installing it is simple. Anyone know what kind of process it really is on a truck like this?

Thanks
James

The slave cyl sits behind the t/o bearing. The trans has to be r&r'd to replace it....

It would be a good idea to change the clutch assembly while you're in there.........

r&r'd? That means I'd have to remove the Trany? If so what does that entail? I am not very experienced with this kinda thing but if its just a matter of bolts and removing the thing i can handle it.

thanks

That really depends on you and your level of experience...... If you've never done one before I'd suggest getting a good manual and reading that over and then decide. If you have a friend that's done this before, it would help to have him give you a hand...
