Renault megae revs cu out after 30-40 minutes

after driving for about 45 minutes a warning light comes on the dash and when i hit the accelerator the reves are blocked and the car jumps around as there is no power. Its fine if i leave it to cool down but again i can only drive for 30-45 minutes.
Any ideas?
