Recently installed transmission failure

2003 Dodge Neon

78,000 miles
Last week, the transmission on my 2003 Dodge Neon failed and needed to be replaced. The shop installed a rebuilt transmission and I picked it up this afternoon. I was told it had a one-year warranty.
A few hours later I was driving home from work and the car started bucking. The engine light went on, then after stepping on the gas at a traffic light after it turned green, the car would not go. With the car in drive it started rolling backward. It wouldn't move in reverse, either.
I called for a tow and the driver noticed smoke coming out from under the hood and the car was leaking transmission fluid and antifreeze.
We towed it back to the shop where the transmission was installed, but the shop was closed.
What I'd like to know is how can something that was fixed fail so soon after it was fixed? It doesn't seem possible that it could happen so soon.
Is it sort of like how the body can reject a transplanted organ?

Make sure the there is no tranny fluid in your coolant.. There is a common issue with those cars where the tranny cooler built into the rad ruptures and mixes the coolant with tranny fluid and vise versa..

Why would the very thing that was fixed, break down again just a few hours after I got it out of the shop?
Is there any legitimate reason for this?
Is it just the chance you take with rebuilt transmissions?
I really don't understand this. When something is fixed, it's supposed to stay fixed, is it not?

Did you read his answer?
Would you expect the transmission to continue to run with coolant getting mixed into it?
If they just fixed the damage done and not the original cause of the damage, it's going to happen again.

I had a 96 neon i parted out and i saw the same thing.
Coolant coming out of the tranny.
The tranny still worked fine though before i removed it.
