Ranger Transmission leak Sign In

1994
Ford
Ranger
2.3L Automatic
130k miles

Noticed automatic transmission was shifting hard a little, next stop noticed leaking transmission fluid. Following day, checked fluid "cold" still on dipstick. Drove to Transmission shop truck completely stopped on the way. Parked for about 10 minutes, started again and drove ~2 miles to the shop, very slowly transmission acting up the whole way. Transmission shop says they cannot check anything without first tearing the transmission down. For $300-700, I put trabsmission fluid in the Truck and drove back home, with only two times where it wouldn't take off very well at the light. Otherwise drove pretty good home. Still leaking, is there any hoses, seals etc that I can replace or better test to perform without tearing the transmission down.

Thanks.

Re: Ranger Transmission leak Sign In

you need to climb under the truck and see if you can find where the trans fluid is coming from.
if it is the seal at the drive shaft you can replace it fairly cheap by dropping the drive shaft and putting it in your self.
if it is coming from around the transmission pan you will need to get a new gasket and a fluid change and i would put a new filter in if it is leaking there witch is still fairly cheap if you do it your self.
now if it is coming from between the motor and trans you will need to take it to a shop to have the seal put in
now if you get all the leaks fixed and it is still slipping you can try some transmission treatment like locus if that dose not work you will need to take it to a shop
